owner + calligrapher

Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved fonts and hand lettering. Some of my most vivid memories from my childhood are learning cursive in the 2nd grade, joining a creative writing class in 4th grade, and looking forward to after school art classes.  It wasn't until my early twenties that I rediscovered hand lettering and calligraphy. It was truly one of those moments when I realized what I was meant to do. After studying with a seasoned calligrapher here in Houston, in traditional copperplate calligraphy, I began to develop a more modern twist to the traditional alphabet, perfect for today's brides. I continued calligraphy as a hobby, but soon starting taking on clients of my own! I take pride in my craft and believe that art is essential to life. I am proud to make the world a little lovelier with each envelope, place card and invitation.

I have found such joy in growing as an artist designing and working with so many talented vendors, and combining my love of calligraphy and teaching, by offering public and private workshops! When I'm not mixing inks, or addressing envelopes you can find me coloring with my daughter, enjoying a nice patio + glass of wine, or knee deep in a big cup of coffee.

behind the name

flour·ish - to bloom, to thrive, to prosper, to grow or develop in a healthy and vigorous way.

How did you choose your business name? A question I get asked frequently. Not only is Flourish a Calligraphy term, meaning to add decorations or embellishments to one's writing, it means so much more beyond that for me. Before starting calligraphy, I constantly searched for my "passion" and my "calling", not living life to it's full potential, constantly confused and seemingly lost on where I should be and what I should be doing .. after falling into a tough place in my life, and a confusing turn of events, I like to say calligraphy sort of found me, grabbed me and took hold. From the first lesson, I knew this was what I was meant to do and calligraphy gave me the push, the drive, and the passion to bloom, to prosper and to flourish. A Fine Flourish stands for writing embellishments, but it stands for life's embellishments as well. A constant reminder to live everyday passionately, thriving, pursuing the best life we can!
